Planning for the new power line to replace the existing one began in 2010s.
The project involves the relocation and renewal of the 380/220 kV Amsteg-Mettlen line dating from 1949 and also includes the relocation and renewal of the parallel 132 kV SBB power line.

Swissgrid's 380/220 kV lines and SBB's 132 kV line will be bundled together over a distance of around 4.7 km on a new route and will run parallel to the motorway and the Reuss.

This shift will allow a better exploitation of the territorial resources both on the agricultural and industrial side.
